Welcome to Air-Basics

The professional web-site of Frank R. Freedman, PhD

I am a meteorologist and environmental scientist. My main area of specialty is fluid turbulence, particularly as it relates to weather prediction and air pollution dispersion. I have studied turbulence, weather prediction, and air pollution dispersion for close to 20 years. My work falls under three main categories: instruction, research and consulting.

I have B.S. and M.S. degrees in Meteorology from San Jose State University, and a PhD in Environmental Engineering from Stanford University. I did post-doctoral work at the National Center for Environmental Prediction, which is the national laboratory tasked with developing the weather forecast models used in this United States. Since then, I have done a variety of consulting work and have taught courses in air pollution and meteorological modeling at San Jose State University.

See the links on the left panel for more details.

Einstein purportedly said that a scientific theory should be as simple as possible, but no simpler. I strive to adhere to this principle as much as possible in my work. The name of this web-site was chosen to reflect this.
